Meet Nermal

Late last year, Doug and I started talking about getting another pet.  Seeing that we were in a bigger house and the kids were a little older, we decided that we could add a new member to the family.

Then came the quandary.  A puppy or a kitten?

We took a vote with the kids (hypothetical, of course, we still wanted to surprise them) and it was divided.  Aaron said puppy, Emma said kitty.  I voiced Taylor’s as a kitty, too, because that’s what I wanted.  We took their votes into consideration and decided on a kitten.

A couple of weeks later, while Christmas shopping, we came across an adoption event hosted by the Kalamazoo Animal Rescue.  We went in to take a look and discovered that the event was for kittens!  We checked them all out, but there was one little one that won our hearts.  Her name was Uriana.

Because she had not spayed yet, we had to wait a week to get her.  I hated waiting!  I was so excited to get her!

We (finally) brought her home and introduced her to the kids (and Shadow).  She quickly made herself at home.  We wanted to rename her, so when it came to picking her a new name, we let Emma have the final say.  (Aaron named Shadow.)  We decided that Nermal would be a perfect fit (even though the real Nermal is a boy).  I was a little nervous at first at how Shadow was going to react.  It took him a couple of days to get used to her, but they are buddies now.

Unlike Shadow,  Nermal doesn’t mind having photos taken of her.  She’s very photogenic!  She loves to run around and play, but mostly at night after the kids have gone to bed.  She sleeps all day, but that’s probably because she parties all night. =)

It’s been about 6 1/2 weeks since she entered our family and it feels like she’s always been here. I’m not sure if or when we’ll add on, but for right now I think our family of 7 is perfect.

Welcome to the family, Nermal!
